Contest

I'm feeling overwhelmed by the stash. Seriously. I went to do a cleanup of my livingroom yarn space, and moved a lot of yarn from that box to the upstairs, 'proper stash' box (the livingroom should only be for WIPs, but new yarn spends a lot of time there before it gets moved). The 'proper stash' is now looking surprisingly full. I found sock yarns in there I forgot I had.

So, I'm going to share the wealth. And at the same time see if I can entice all you blogstalkers out there to actually comment. I know you're there cause the statcounter says you are, but you're all damn quiet.

I bought 5 skeins of Malabrigo Merino Worsted (ravlink) in Stonechat to make Cherie Amour (I had to dig through my brain to even remember what it was for!). I know now I'm never going to make it. I'm not going to want a sweater made of a single spun wool in variegated reds. I might want a hat, gloved and/or scarf, but not a sweater, not 5 skeins worth

Anyone else want them? Suggest something I can do with the other three skeins (still almost 600 metres), and I'll stick your name in the pot. If i get a lot of entries, I might find something else nice to rehome. If you don't have a blog, can I request a rav profile link instead, so I can find you? I'll do the draw in about a week.

Years ago, I knit a Clapotis with 3 skeins of Malabrigo. It's one of my most beloved knits ever. But what a pain to make! Instead of being able to drop a column of stitches, I had to laboriously pull each one loose, since they semi-felted together just in the knitting.

Anyways, I mostly just wanted to let you know that I posted about your contest on WiKnit, my knitting contest blog

I would love them :D I'm desperate for a hat, currently only own a slouchy beret and the UK weather is just too cold! Well done about sorting through your stash.

I'd love to try Malabrigo (embarrassed to say I never have) and LOVE shades of red.

I'd make a nice large scarf/shawl with it if I were you.

I don't blog and I'm not on Ravelry. Basically I'm just a lurker.

I hope I can enter by leaving my e-mail.

I would try a felted bag... something hefty and almost like a tote bag.

Or make something really squishy like a hooded scarf.

OOOH! Felted Slippers in that color would be really really cute.

I'm commenting partly just for the sake of adding another comment :)

I love getting comments from folks who read my blog.

Altho the Malabrigo sounds lovely - & i'd most likely make some sort of throw with it - I'm afraid my stash is at creaking stage already!

Maybe the Prismatic Scarf (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-prismatic-scarf)? You'd probably have enough yarn to do a hat or gloves, too.

I would make a hat and scarf to match. I love this bucket hat: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/a-better-bucket. Or maybe a beret like http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gretel.

Felted tote like the french market bag on knitty.

I know it's not a very "exotic" suggestions but I'd probably make a coordinating hat and scarf set. It is beautiful yarn, though!

I suggest the Just Enough Ruffles scarf:
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/just-enough-ruffles

I would pair that with the Evangeline Fingerless Mitts:
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/evangeline

You would have enough yarn for both of these beauties! Happy knitting!

Maybe a tiny Irish Hiking Scarf or Mini-Clapotis? A felted purse might be nice too. sicilianbuttercup on Ravelry

I'd love to see this knitted into a Star Crossed Slouchy Beret plus an Aibhlinn cowl. If there's any leftover yarn I maybe would attempt to make a simple wristwarmers. That would make a nice set ;o)

I love the yarn. I'd make the shopping bag in the new issue of Interweave Knits.

I am not interested in your stash, it's not that it's not nice, it's just that I have my own stash overload and have just received more today... ;-)

However, I wanted to comment on the commenting. I's funny that, with no comments. I have many visitors to my blog, but only a couple of steady commenters. It's very interesting that. I have this notion that people are shooting buy, have a quick look at the picture, a quick read of the blog post, but are too much in a hurry to actually get around to commenting.

OR, they are just keeping their hands on the needles... ;-)

A cabled hooded scarf? I'm Needlegrrl on Ravelry - look at my projects. :) A set of matching mittens and there ya go. :)

PS - I made a sweater of red Manos singles and still love it!

Thanks for a fun contest!

The Malabrigo Ruffle Shawl is a perfect project for three skeins!

I think you should knit a beret (cover of 2008 Fall/Winter Knit1) or a newsboy cap.

It's looking like my current sweater project is not going to use all of the skeins it asked me to buy. I plan to knit the extra into the cabled beret (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cabled-beret), and try to make up some kind of matching neck warmer. If I have enough left after that, I may even take a simple mitten pattern and add some matching cables onto that, too- I do like to be coordinated!

You might want to give something like that a try.

I've been dying to try Malabrigo, as I've heard it's AMAZING.

Also, I'm mujercita on Ravelry.

I'd recommend an Elizabeth Zimmermann pattern -- the Rib Warmer -- for 3 skeins. It's so cleverly constructed, and would use up about 2-3 skeins of your yarn! Look on ravelry for some amazing finishing work on this pattern, too -- http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rib-warmer/people

I recently finished a scarf with 2 skeins of Malabrigo - it would have been nice to have a 3rd so it could be long enough to wrap around my neck a few more times. Here's the
the pattern and my scarf

I'm working on a Vergara vest with Malabrigo worsted. The pattern requires 3 skeins of yarn.

OK two things .. I once, like you, had good intentions of making Cherie Amore (my progess is on my raverly site) just like you my inspiration fizzled very quickly. There must be a Cherie Amore curse out there! But if you Ms. Lunasa Knits, one who dares not to do dishes, dig way deep down in your heart and decide to every so graciously let your yarn become part of my stash .. I will not let it sit around and get chummy with the other woolies I own .. I will grab the Malabrigo by the ears throw it on my ever so silky cherished Addi turbos and create like I have never created before!
Well any whoo have a wonderful day! saramonroe is me on raverly.

How about a vest? Vergara or Artigas are both cute and not huge projects but still very wearable that the color would look great in! or did you see the hat Pauline? (all on Rav) adorable. I have yet to get a chance to drool or fondle Malabrigo .

I would use the very beautiful yarn to knit a multi-directional scarf. I think that would be great-looking.

I'm purple on Ravelry

Oooh - I'd love to try Malabrigo and I love reds, so please please please pick me!

Now what should you do with part of your yarn? I'd make a nice set - hat (1-ish skein), neck-warmer (1-ish skein), mittens (1 -ish) I'd (oops, I mean you'd) look great in that I'll bet!

And if I win, you can leave a post on my blog - it can use one!

Wow!! Those commenters come out for the malabrigo!! It is gorgeous!! But I too had to destash 8!! skeins of the exact colorway because I realized a the same as you! Just not for me!

I like the idea of the clapotis for the other three. There are so many gorgeous one skein things to do with malabrigo too- could be good for gifts!!

Averil said...

WOW! What a way to lure out the people and get them to comment.

I would also go for "A Better Bucket" hat, and either the "Shifting Sands" or "Holding Hands, Feeding Ducks" scarf.

EJ said...

I must not lurk, I must not lurk.

Now can I have the yarn?

I think a Clapotis would be fabulous.

And I can't believe that there are people who don't NEED this.

And you can find me lurking at

I suggest that you make a nice warm shawl with the 3 skeins (and give the rest to me). I'm certain I'd have no problem thinking up something to do with it and I love reds.

You could do a my so called scarf and a hat to match. Malabrigo looks really good in that stitch pattern.

Out of three skeins I'd be inclined to either knit a waistcoat (cause I really like waistcoats); a sleeveless top (which seem to have come back into fashion recently) or a big ass shawl. All of the above would be cool

I'm wyvernfriend almost everywhere

Ellie said...

I would make a multi-directional scarf with the yarn (which I think is gorgeous - just my colors and style) I think that those look even better is a subtly changing yarn like Malabrigo than a striped yarn like Noro. If there was enough left I'd make a matching cap.

When I win (I'm being very optimistic here, I know), you can reach me at elweyu AT hotmail etc

carla said...

I recommend that you use the yarn to make a nice felted bag. I think it would look great.

Thanks for the chance to win the yarn. I'd love it.

I almost suggested the Clapotis but evergreenknits is right - drop stitches with wool can be a pain. How about the Lucy Bag? My mom has made them for all of my sisters and the color you have would look great in a purse. And a new personal favorite is the Felted Oven Mitt - Malabrigo is over-kill but I just finished one in Manos. I'm shethinksshecan on Rav.

LilChickadee said...

I really like the Hemlock Ring Blanket - that would be so cuddly made in Malabrigo!

I think the colors would be great for cabled cushions and maybe a matching felted bowl, it they'd fit your decor.

hopieknits said...

For me there's nothing better than shoes and a matching handbag so here are links to patterns for both. They're not free but the bag requires one skein and the shoes two. A perfect pair.

knitting a long version of 'my so called scarf' is so gratifying that it is my suggestion, if looking for a beautiful scarf pattern. here's the link just in case!

i have given it to several friends who all say they love the look and color variation, too.

Maybe the little EZ chest warmer/vest (Brooklyn Tweed knitted it; it's in her Knitting W/O tears too I think) would be nice for your remaining skeins. . . I'd love the red and am PLEASED to support recycling!

I love the colorway and I don't know anyone who doesn't love Malibrigo :)

I just finished the Evangeline's
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/evangeline
with one skein of Malibrigo that I got for Christmas, and am going to make a matching hat with the other.
So I definitely support that idea, yet Since you didn't want to make and entire sweater out of it, what about a vest? Like this one:
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/all-in-rib-v-neck-vest
If you wanted to spice it up, you can do the trim in a different color
or a tank like this one:
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fern-fitted-shell

Thanks for the eye-candy!

I would say matching leg warmers, arm warmers and a head band. The colors are very neutral.

I would say go with a feltable bag!

I am in the same 'smaller-projects-please'-mood. I don't want to start sweaters right now, I want smaller things and instant gratification, please... I'd make a really wide, thick, warm scarf knit in patent knit - something to wrap around my neck to warm me in the last weeks of winter. And then possibly a couple of simple hand warmers to show the yarn and keep your fingers warm while knitting spring stuff. Yeah...

Deeners said...

I am of the camp that Malabrigo should be in a project that will be wrapped around my body in some way. A lovely scarf or shawl. Or even a shrug. You get sweater like qualities (arm covering, warm) without sweater commitment.

Or since all I want to do is touch Malabrigo, maybe a nice pair of mittens or gloves. You could touch it all the time.
