Seams

I haven't knit a sweater in pieces in a long time, And Now I'm remembering why. Seaming, even when you know what you're doing, is drawn out and boring. Boring, boring boring. I've been working on the seams of this sweater for several days now, and I'm still not done.

But now that I'm on the last piece (one side seam to go) I'm starting to think it's not going to fit. It's just not big enough across the chest. I'll try to block it a bit bigger, but I'm concerned. I've also realised that I love this sweater. The yarn is lush. The pattern is pretty. I want to wear it. And it isnt' going to fit. Suggestions???

In the meantime, I've cast on for a new project. Something seamless. A top down raglan. The only downside in the lack of seams, is the purling. Lots and lots of purling.

This is going to be Mr. Greenjeans. But using Yantarik's version as inspiration for some modifications. And I'm using DK yarn. I've had my eye on this sweater since it first came out, it's only now that it's starting to come together.

Owning the Stash

I'm deciding my next project (despite still having several on the needles) and in doing so, I wanted to review my stash. So here's the situation:
- enough laceweight for one large shawl and one scarf
- enough sock yarn for 14 pairs of socks (but at least one skein is too nice for socks)
- two sweater quantities
- 13 single skeins that are mostly 'unearmarked', some of which are leftovers and up for trade or sale, should anyone ever want or need them!
- another 5 yarns in multiple skiens, low volume 'sets', also unearmarked.

It doesn't seem too bad like that. I thought there was more laceweight than there is, and more sweater sized lots... and less sock yarn. I have no idea what I'm going to do with a lot of those single skeins, some are gifts, some are souvenirs, and I don't feel I should give them away, despite the lack of ideas.

This also doesn't count anything that is currently on the needles. That's list is short, so I'll add it here (and probably forget a thing or two):

- Noro silk garden sock shawl
- Printed silk cardigan
- Party lace cowl

Is that it? Surely not. There is a sock from way back when, but that's officially a UFO. And I can't think of anything else. Shocking!

Sunny Sunday

It's great to spend some time outside on a sunny day. I've been doing a little gardening, and a little knitting. The knitting is now doing a bit of blocking, outside in the sunshine.

On a roll

Two Pairs of socks this week. This is a quickie post, because it's almost the long weekend.... But these are the Dublin Dye Company hand dye that myself and Elana did as a test. It's a lovely semi solid, I personally think it's fab :) Hopefully we'll be dyeing soon, and put some for sale in the shop!

No pattern for these, just a plain top down sock.

Happy easter!!

Husband socks

One day (probably in January) I was rushing out the door to Blackrock to teach a class. My WIPs consisted of a cabled sweater, and a lacy cowl. Neither good class projects, so I quickly grabbed a ball of Zitron Trekking XXL and cast on some socks for the Husband. Today I finally bothered to graft the second toe.

Basic top down heel flap socks, in a boring stocking stitch, in a manly flecked blue. Exactly what a husband would wear.

Noro Silk Garden Sock

I forgot to mention this yesterday. Noro Silk Garden Sock showed up at This is Knit late last week. I bought 2. If the last outstanding colour is the beige-y one, then I might get two more yet. They will probably be either a Clapotis, or A one skein stole (rav link). May be I could bias the one skein stole - the best of both worlds? :)

ETA: If you want some, get in quick. I don't think it will last, especially the popular colours!

Not Sew Easy

The knitting has been minimal. I think I've got finish-itis. Where you just don't finish anything. I've got a pair of socks that only need one toe grafted, but I can't be arsed. And that's just one of the four items 'in progress'.

But I've done some sewing. We did some work on the livingroom... floors sanded, walls stripped of paper, filled and painted. New curtains and new cushions on the sofa, both made by me. A LOT of sewing.

Here's the livingroom after the walls and floors were done. A bit bare, cause we haven't moved everything back in.

You can probably see the reason I decided to do all the sewing. The room is BLAND. I wanted to put some colour on the walls, but couldn't come up with a happy option. So they became a darker, pinkier beige. It's called 'cookie dough', and is a much richer colour than it looks in the photo.

The curtains are much richer than the picture as well. They look a little too pink here. They also look a little short, but the curtain rail is moving down, so they should be fine. Or, I'll have to get back to the machine. We still haven't moved everything back in (that bookshelf is rather bare) but the knitting and cook books are mostly back!
